Pine IS Historic Colorado

This mountain community offers residents and visitors the timeless beauty only a well-preserved, natural environment can provide. Fishermen, especially fly fishermen, are drawn to the South Platte River and Buffalo Creek, just as they have been for centuries. Today, hikers and mountain bikers still explore the trails of Pike National Forest, albeit for recreation rather than for the commerce of their forefathers.

In the 1800s, Pine was a stop on the railroad between Denver and Breckenridge. The Sphinx Park Mercantile was a popular stop. Today, visitors to the Bucksnort Saloon and Family Restaurant can enjoy the ambiance, food and beverages in the same location as the Mercantile. The Saloon attracts locals as well as those just passing through. There is music, memorabilia and unmistakably good food and libations.

The Annual Rhubarb Festival has been held for over 29 years. This summertime festival has rhubarb recipe contests, music, food, parades, and arts and crafts. Each year, residents of Pine and the surrounding area look forward to attending this special event.

The Pine Emporium sells unique hand-crafted items along with jewelry, books, vintage clothing, and much more. In addition, there is an art gallery featuring the work of local and regional artists.

Staunton State Park is also located in Pine. The park offers hiking and biking opportunities, and is a beautiful backdrop for photographers during all four seasons. There are meadows and cliffs to explore, and the diversity of plants and animals draw nature lovers to the park as often as possible. There is also horseback riding, fishing, camping and rock climbing available.
