High Expectations & Rich History
Take a deep breath in Indian Hills and you will likely smell the rich Ponderosa Pines and flowery meadows. After you take that deep breath, you will realize you are at an elevation between 6800 and 8500! While residents have become used to the effects of the high elevation, visitor’s bodies often remind them that they are on a mountain.
Indian Hills was originally created as a golf course by George Olinger in the early 1900s. Prior to that, the land was used for farming and ranching. Jefferson County first recognized Indian Hills as the official name of the golf course and housing development in June 1923. At the time, the area was intended to be used for golfing and summer mountain homes.
Today, the population of Indian Hills is less than 1,500. The community spirit and connections are strong and devoted to preserving the area and enriching the lives of both residents and visitors.
Geneva Glen Camp exemplifies the purposeful and enriched lives the residents of the community (both past and present) strive for in each generation. For almost 100 years, the mission of Geneva Glen has been to provide children 6 to 16 the opportunity to learn maturity, respect, and the core values that will provide them the foundation to be strong positive leaders and role models as they grow into adults. The summer camp welcomes children from all races, economic and ethnic backgrounds to engage in interactions necessary to gain mutual respect and individual responsibility. Geneva Glen tailors its program for the age level of its campers with special programs, arts, crafts, horseback riding and a unique blend of entertainment and education.
Messiah Mountain is also located in Indian Hills and is part of the Messiah Community Church. The Mountain Retreat Center is a place for groups to gather to reconnect, explore, grow and develop their spiritual roots. The facilities include the Bock Lodge, which has a meeting space and a large kitchen. The Bock Lodge can accommodate up to 50 people. There is also a dormitory on the property that can sleep up to 25 people. The facilities can be used for day, overnight, and extended stay retreats. It is used by the Lutheran Church, and is also approved for private rentals. Its prime location amidst the pine forests and its mountain vantage point add that special ambiance that enriches the experience at Messiah Mountain.
